Studio corvus
by Liudmila Novikova
My name is Lucy. I am the one-woman band behind Corvus Studio.
I am not an artist or artisan in a traditional sense, but a maker in search of my meta-trajectory.
Becoming a metalsmith and starting a studio was never a premeditated decision, but an organic process triggered by major life changes. This journey took me, a former Russian journalist, from the hustle and bustle of a busy city to a quiet and picturesque Slovenian village and a jeweller’s bench.
My work is inspired by both the natural and the human world. The former is magnificent in its design; the latter, stunning in its complexity; both, so fragile and grand.
Using non-ferrous metals, I create sculptural jewellery with sensual curves. Whatever I make, I strive to convey my vision of what a well-crafted artful object or a body adornment piece should be. By the means of hammer forming, I explore the totality of different forms a single flat shape, drawn on paper, can yield. I enjoy sculpting and carving, be it wax or wood.
Studio Corvus values slowness, restraint, and material integrity. In a world saturated with noise and immediacy, I would like to offer an alternative.
Pieces created in the Studio are not conceived as commodities. They are not meant to keep pace with trends or seasons. They are shaped as evocative companions — objects to live with, to return to, and to carry meaning over time.
I hope to ignite this appreciation in those who wear and handle my pieces. If the very same work that facilitates my artistic growth grounds its wearer and sparks joy in them… well, that is the perfect scenario.
